• Gravity Hull Designator - a true Localized Physics mod

 • You're moving the player to a different space and rendering the entities manually, right? Something like what Valve did in the Portal 2 intro? I've worked on localized physics a bit too, but my approach is way different. Instead of the rendering technique, I'm modifying player movement. The original source code is easily available, so it's easy to base the code on that.
 •
The only thing I'm worried about is all this hype. Do you know how stable it is yet SuperLlama? Is it feasible for 20-30 players to use this at the same time? It's immense and definitely a game changing feature, but I don't want to get too excited too early.
You can minimize lag by parenting every decorative prop to 1 single "main" prop and then using the tool on it. That way, if (for example) you have a car, only 5 props are moving: The main prop and the four wheels. If you take a prop and place it on the floor of your vehicle, it won't fly away with this mod. Although your way is probably much less complex and less demanding for the server... Maybe it's possible to combine the two: If there are no non-frozen entities in the area except players, use your way, else use SuperLlama's. If that lags less at all.

Player movement is my priority, since I'm making this for different purposes that SuperLlama. Also, his method doesn't work for walking on brushes, so wall walking up a building isn't possible.

 •
First thing I thought of.
I actually thought of Portal, what with the way you're re-oriented when the gravity changes, but that part in the third video does remind me of Prey

 •
You could easily spawn an invisible PHX plate and use that to emulate walking on a brush.
Would be kinda... iffy, covering the whole world with invisible entities to be able to walk everywhere, wouldn't it? :v:
 •
Would be kinda... iffy, covering the whole world with invisible entities to be able to walk everywhere, wouldn't it? :v:
Why can't you just remove them when your done with them? Or that \/
 •
Would be kinda... iffy, covering the whole world with invisible entities to be able to walk everywhere, wouldn't it? :v:
Nah, trace in front of the player and if the trace normal is > 20 degrees, spawn a plate under the player just in front of them or something.
 • Not only could this be useful for creating mindfuck levels, moving around in flying things and such. But this can also be a great help for camera movements.
 • You come from nowhere with THIS? Very very nice work dude, i'm pretty sure everyone who goes into this thread will be amazed with what you have created!
 • Can we create spherical masses in empty space with this? If so we could make some pretty amazing stuff! (Landing ships on planets instead of flying into them and landing inside)
 • If anyone joined that server and it didn't work, sorry about that, the bug has been fixed. If you were on when I restarted it, sorry about that, it should be up again.
 • This is amazing! This will not only change gamemodes such as spacebuild, but will allow for a lot of fun new gamemodes to be created. I'm glad to see this being already the state it is (near completion!! <correct me if I'm wrong>). Amazing job and good luck with this!
 • 8 slots hggnnn Tons of downloads :argh: I disconnected to turn off downloads now it's full again FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Joined and now I can't touch my own props! Holy shit, had to turn off downloads, so I retried and now it's full again! rage
 •
We can stand inside helicopters. Fuck yeah.
Please to god make this work with WAC Even if I have to recode all my custom ones for this base I will! Would be epic someone flying the heli, And your standing on the side or the back of it Shooting :D

 • You'll see that when I finally do join I have to go for dinner. Today is not my lucky day.
 • It's going to be released TOMORROW?? This IS no-doubt a game-changer. With what I saw BlackOps doing with the portal stuff in his map (I believe he did something like that, right?), I can only imagine what could be done with this as one day maybe a tool in maps for setting gravity on objects. Maybe the next kind of Spacebuild with actual planets is getting closer again.. [editline]5th May 2011[/editline]
You'll see that when I finally do join I have to go for dinner. I think you're missing something..
 • Very impressive. I love seeing new talent appear out of the blue like this. I tip my hat at you, sir. :golfclap:
 • To everyone waiting to get into the 8-slot server, if someone who has a 32-slot or something wants to host it, just send me an email and I'll reply with an attachment zip with the addon.

Does your addon have any dependencies or will it run on vanilla sandbox?
 • I'm not usually impressed with anything gmod related, but damn I'm impressed.

Aside from this awesome gravity addon, I don't want to have to download 40 extra models and some addons I'll never again use.

So yes, if this addon requires no extra models, it will have no extra models.
 • Just reinstalled GMod. Now you can walk inside a rocket that has no Hoverballs in spacebuild! This is my dream addon!
