•
"Transport rocks through what looks like copper cables?" No thanks.
All good points, but I don't want to see resource wires disappear entirely, mid space refuels with wires and plugs was one of the most fun aspects of spacebuild. I agree that transferring rocks with wires doesn't make sense though on the topic of challenging, i'd love it if fuel was implemented better - in spacebuild the only thing you'd have to worry about was life support resources rather than getting from A to B meaning anyone could cruise across the map to the furthest planet away without much worry. Implementing fuel needs or energy requirements for gyros would bring another layer of depth to resource management as well as make refuels more viable and getting stranded more common (which i'd actually enjoy seeing as rescue missions can be pretty fun). Also zero gravity movement in gmod by default is pretty shit to be honest - you make one wrong step and suddenly you're slowly floating away from some random airlock with no way to get back, so it'd be great if some form of jetpack with limited fuel or even a tether/life support cord to manoeuvre on the outside of your ship with would be helpful, I think this was mentioned earlier in the thread with upgrades
This seems fairly similar to a gamemode I tried out a while back called Frontier. Perhaps the team working on this gamemode wants to actually release something like this since Frontier never was. I was actually hoping there would be a group to do something like this. It's actually a stable space gamemode with elements that don't grow stale.
I thought they were aiming to release for Gmod 13, so hopefully they'll pop up with something this month or next, I had my eye on that mod too

 •
With asteroid mining, do resources mined actually go into a container or something automatically? Can resources be pumped between containers only using wire? (automated systems for life)
Question 1: Nope. When mining asteroids, you'll actually blast the rocks apart with the mining laser, and you'll have to collect the fragments and place them in a container the same as if you were mining for rocks on a planet. Not an easy task in space, but I'm sure you'll figure it out. You're a smart bunch ;) Question 2: There will be a resource pump, similar to that found in SB2.

 • BTW: I will begin releasing development snapshots in the next week or so. I will also release Horizon's .fgd and a demo .vmf for mappers to begin building their own Horizon maps. PLEASE keep in mind that while these snapshots will be mostly playable they will NOT be the complete gamemode, and as such they will be missing A LOT OF STUFF. The goal of these releases will be to provide feedback on gameplay, resource balancing, bugs, and so on. I'm also looking to expand the team a bit... to, you know, more than just me. I'm looking for modellers & mappers, and possibly a sound effects guy. Message me here on Facepunch with screenshots of your work if you're interested.

The only problem with that is, quite often with prop protection systems, it stops players from being able to pick up world entities (which I what I assume the rocks are) with the grabber or physgun. I would really like it if you made it player entities. I just watched the video (I tend not to watch videos as they use internet and I dont have much of it) and DAM, this looks sweet. New sound effects would be awesome as well. Other thing is, are all the sound effects able to be turned off with wire like in SB3? Because that is a god send. This looks like it is going to make me get right back into gmod again. Another thing, are gyros going to be implemented? Because they are fucking brilliant.
 • Half related, but someone needs to fix SBEP. Dumb thing can't spawn simple SW hulls. Or is that just me? It's really kind of critical though, gryos are the way to go for space travel. Hoverballs are cheating in spacebuild, imo. • Great Concept Bynari! Nice...Nice... I would like to be a part of your steam group if you could find your way to inviting me... My steam name is: shawnmd Also, I have a Windows Server 2012 you could use with very good stats (speed, connection, FastDL, private box) if you needed to really test the game mode out on multiplayer. We're the same server community jackarunda tested his sweps out on. And Yeah, we don't charge anything of course. Just throwing that out there... ;)

 • Are there any plans to keep terraforming in this new gamemode? I'm not talking about silly things like admin tools or blanketing a whole planet with a climate regulator; one of the things I liked about SB3 was the ability to modify the composition of atmospheres. Yes, it could be abused - I'm sure everyone here has seen someone vent an entire atmosphere before - but it also opened up the potential to allow players to engineer habitable planets.
 • snapshots sound fun! (see Dwarf fortress 'fun') I only have one qualm about this, is that the SBEP model pack is not compatible with Gmod 13, with will make it much harder to make our space faring ships.
 •
ah cool, what plugin/addon is it? could you ask
You know the Mining Addon? They made it. Except the one that's publicly available was released by someone else before they'd gotten around to making it do stuff. They've modified SBEP so that the gyros run on fuel refined from the stuff you mine, and the amount of fuel you can have is based on how big your ship is as determined by the ships core, which I believe is part of their custom combat/damage system.

 • Come on Roast Cabose! The best fun is trying to piece together junk from City 17 to some fantastical space machine!
 • Complete with random train engine! Yeah, but I still prefer the Spacebuild prefabs. Unless someone wants to start work on a custom Horizon specific model pack. *wink wink nudge nudge*
 •
[img_thumb]http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb156/bynari/isogen_microreactor.png[/img_thumb] Another reactor design. This one would require fuel 'charges' to be inserted into the socket on the top, and then retracted into the machine to be consumed. Originally I'd planned this to be the miniaturized version of the fusion reactor, but it still seems a bit too big. Maybe I'll make it into a super-expensive tier 3 device that will produce massive amounts of power. Idk yet.
Firstly, I've been playing Garry's Mod for.. Well, I don't exactly remember, but many years now. (at least 5-6?) My point is, I've been around for a long time and until now, I never felt the need to actually register an account on Facepunch. That being said, thank you for creating this fantastic addon and motivating me to do so. Anyway, on to my comment about this post.. I'd love to see this, or even a similar design, used as a micro-reactor for ships. It would be cool to have a device, perhaps two or three tiers after the Fusion Reactor, that you can somehow link up to the FR to collect x amount of energy via cylindrical storage containers, which would "eject" from the new machine when full in a similar style that this design would take in the fuel charges. (Basically, by raising out of the top and allowing you to take it, or just by somehow "unlocking" itself from the machine.) These energy canisters/fuel charges/whatever you want to name them could then be stored on storage racks until needed and would be used to power the canister-driven micro reactor. It would also be cool to see all of this driven by a magnetic based insertion method similar to the one used in Dishonored for whale oil tanks. Now, I'm now coder, so I've got no clue how easy or difficult this would be, but I think it would be an amazing method for mobile reactors. It would also ensure that larger "mother ship" style ships could create energy with no issues by using the FR, but smaller ships would need to use the Micro Reactor, forcing them to return to planets/"mother ships" in order to re-fuel.. Just my input on the matter. I'm going to love this either way. <3 ---Edit--- Also, it would add yet another commodity/resource to the gamemode to be traded, and a quite valuable one as well if you haven't unlocked the FR attachment yet but managed to get your hands on a MR. Additionally, other things could be powered by these canisters as well if you were feeling extra creative. The Micro Reactor would by far be their most useful use though.

 • Here's the first snapshot of Horizon. Please keep in mind that this release is, in technical terms, broke as hell. While the gamemode is mostly playable, it is also extremely incomplete. Feel free to share any comments, suggestions or bugs you may find. Here's the link, have at it: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/62115676/hzn_dev_0.1.0.zip

The link tool seemed to complain about link_tool.lua at line 98, if I recall correctly it was about Networks being a nil value. init.lua line 470 for the entire gamemode was complaining about this aswell, attempting to index networks, a nil value.
