• Gcombat alternative?

So I've been away from GMod since like 2010 or so. I want to build some shit with guns and shit, but I don't want to use gCombat since it was broken back then and probably hasn't been maintained a bit since then. So has anything new sprung up to fill the vacuum?
ACF has some cool shit you might want to check out
Yeah, use ACF. It's SVN though. Here's a link to get you started. Make sure you follow the installation Instructions. Took me a couple of tries to get it right. http://acf.googlecode.com/svn/branches/ I'm going to assume you know how SVN works. If not here's a guide to get you started. http://tortoisesvn.net/docs/nightly/TortoiseSVN_en/tsvn-quick-start.html If everything installs correctly the folder you installed the ACF pack to should be labelled with a small green checkmark. If it's a red X you may want to try running an SVN update.
PewPew?

PewPew is atrocious compared to ACF.
I can't figure out how ACF works though The props I use are not getting destroyed [sp]And there are no lasers[/sp]
What does ACF stand for, and is there a facepunch thread about it? EDIT: ACF Stands for Armoured Combat Framework. Still working on the thread.

I use ACF, GDC, and PewPew, it really depends on what I'm building for example, normally I'll use ACF but if I need a lightweight gun GDC works and if I need to save space too, PewPew works for that however ACF hands down is the best
Tortoise SVN just for gmod addons is a dumb and bad solution. Use this instead. It even comes with most SVNs you'll need already listed in it (including PewPew, Wire, Gcombat + Extended) but you can effortlessly add custom ones too. Tick the boxes and hit download. If you can't work it out for yourself somehow, this is how the boxes would need to be filled out for adding ACF: http://acf.googlecode.com/svn/branches/models/ http://acf.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ For convenience here's some other things that come via SVN that you will want: Wenli's Build Tools Fallen's Build tools Adv Dupe 2 No collide all multi

I never knew he had any releases. But yeah, thanks dude.
ACF is the most detailed and realistic, sure. If that's what you're looking for then that's what you want. If you're looking for a more arcade approach to damage handling I would recommend PewPew. No ammo, no armor simulation, just a whole bunch of HP and cool lasers and stuff.

Trying ACF. Okay, here's my rating. ACF is a superb mod. The models are absolutely sexy in every way. They're industrial and clunky looking, like guns really are. They're also huge and weight a lot. The whole ammunition system takes a bit to get used to and is pretty finicky at times but is a very welcome addition. I like realism, and this mod gives it. Also, instead of hugearse explosions with PewPew when you destroy something, the prop is instead unwelded and unfrozen. Further projectiles cannot collide with it (I just figured it out - probably just no-collided it). On the other hand, however, it is a year or so old. There have been no updates in a while. This means, of course, that there are bugs. Standard bullets do not fire, you have to use one of the other types. The weapon linking/unlinking system bugs out sometimes. The gun does not fire correctly when using an input from an E2 (from my tests) and from an Adv. Pod Controller (also from my tests). I don't know if I was doing something wrong or if it was actually broken. In conclusion, the mod is greatly broken in a few areas, and apparently there are no missiles as they were buggy and unbalanced. However, overlooking these bugs (or even attempting to fix them (?)) could service you with a very fun, useful, well-modeled and realistic weaponry addon. Also, did I mention the sounds are orgasmic? In the end, however, I have switched back to PewPew for the larger userbase, the better compatibility with Wire, the fact that it's modular and more compact, the fact that it is able to actually be fired, and just because I'm used to it. If PewPew had the best parts of ACF (i.e. the ammo system, the destruction system that doesn't destroy props, but simply unwelds, unfreezes and no-collides it) then I would be a very happy man. That answer your question? ...Edit... You know what? Why do I even have any of this? When I make contraptions I don't even use it. I usually just make my own damage system with Damage Detectors and E2 >_>
Uh, what do you mean it's not been updated in a while? The mod has been very active.
Uh, what do you mean it's not been updated in a while? The mod has been very active.
wat Edit: I was reading an apparently old thread about ACF. When was it last updated? Another edit: Answered my own question.
Fixed the attachments on the air turbines.
