• Does anyone else think Wiremod has ruined GMod?

 • I have found Wiremod to be very useful in many situations. However, I own a server and I find it to be one of the laggiest addons out there, well, in the hands of a Wiremod addict at least. I also dislike how complicated it can be to make something actually work, and trying to do that kinda ruins the fun there could be had, I play gmod to have fun, not write expressions all day. But in general my point is that why overcomplicate things so much when you can achieve the same result or a similar one from the basic tools that are included with Garry's Mod? (No, I don't think wiremod has ruined gmod though.)
 •
Perfectly illustrated when I made a barrel shooting awesome vending machine death robot to fight this other guy's robot. He made his out of wire - it span around really quickly on the spot and just remover-gunned my robot. I mean. What the fuck.
Someone has been watching too much 'War of the Servers'
 • Wire-Mod is a GREAT improvement to Garry's Mod in my opinion. It was great learning it and even more fun finding new stuff to do with it. It expanded Garry's Mod to new inventions like the automated turrets, which you WOULD NOT be able to build with out Wire-Mod. Plus, once you learn it you can rub it into the faces of the people who don't understand it.
 •
Wiremod is great big addon. It adds depth to your contraptions, but I can agree that it is annoying seeing every single contraption being automatic engine, computer in a computer etc. I liked it when people could make stuff out of crap, and then show it to the world. Not all this ultra realistic stuff, as much as it looks real, as much as it still looks really good, you cannot shoot down every new contraption that is not like a real life counter part in every way.
I like WireMod. I used to (albeit briefly) work with the Lego Mindstorms, and liked how it worked with numbers. WireMod allows for more creativity, though it shouldn't be hailed as "awesomesauce" when you can build an expression chip and put it on a PHX plate or something. But when used in things that do stuff like fly, drive, explode, etc, it is OK. Without WireMod, there wouldn't be auto-artillery turrets. Nor my SFW (sensor fuzed weapon) that I'm working on. Nor a lot of things. Also, it has taught me to be better with math (and my grades reflect it). The reason why most people don't know WireMod is they expect it to be spoonfed. Just tell them what A, B, C, etc... mean and the other wire basics, and let them learn the rest. That's how I did it, and I am reasonably sure that anyone else could do the same. Another thing I like about it is it increases the value of experience. In your typical shooting game (Counter-Strike or Battlefield 2 for example) you just "spray and pray" most of the time. Whereas in GMod, Wire allows the experienced a much bigger edge over the inexperienced, yet the inexperienced are capable of learning wire if they put their mind to it. The only real problem with this are those who are like "N00b, I'm not going to help you because you're a n00b." Again, those who want to learn bad enough, will.
 • Come on! Wiremod pwns. You can make turrets that shot when someone passes a line, or you can make an simple chair to an masskilling minge machine!
 • What Avon said. Itself it is very complex and usefull. But it ruined gmod contraptions. Now people think, that if they make a phx plate with fuckload of wire on it, they are contraption god's.

 • It's fun bugging people's wiremod creations up on multiplayer. I'm being followed by a wiremod mini car, I take a can, flip it over, cover it with stuff, and the guy gets all pissed and says OMG I WORKED ON AN HOUR ON THAT THING YOU DOUCHEBAG.
 • I think that wire is too maths based, but it is a nice addition to garrys mod.
 • Wire is great, but many of the people who use it are elitist dicks. I love it for making cannons and airplanes and such.
 • I use Wire for just about everything I build (that has some practical use). I don't find it abusive much, but I only play LAN.
 • Don't like it, I can NEVER understand it. NEVER!! I also guess it's made for people who got A*'s in their GCSE's and know everything about maths there is, I don't. So that must be the main reason why I don't understand it.
 • Agreed, I dont know what the hell to do with wiremod all i know is something about wires.

It's just basic intelligence.
 •
boring wire-mod shit that half of us don't understand and even if you did, is boring as hell. /retardation
Lern2brain The same could be said about any build server, just because you're too retarded to use it doesn't mean other people are.
I think that wire is too maths based, but it is a nice addition to garrys mod.
How the hell can you be creative without math and logic?
Wire mod has fucked up gmod to no limit. I don't want to fucking watch tutorials just to use it. I JUST WANT TO PLAY GMOD AND FUCKING MAKE THINGS!
... if you actually ever made things you would eventually see how Wiremod makes it all easier. GMod default STools is step 1 to being creative. Wiremod is step 2. Step 3 is lua?!?! :D
*Replying to a picture of soemone's epic wire game console* That's an exact example of the pointless wire-mod stuff I'm talking about. I don't need an in-game games console, I'm playing on one right now (my PC) and I'm sitting right next to an Xbox 360. Making things like that is just an excuse for people to boast about how intelligent they 'supposedly' are.
Why are you building stuff in GMod when you could be doing it in game???
Wiremod enhanced gmod and added more depth. No more ent_fire hacking like I did in gmod9 :) But indeed, it destroyed the creativity of most players and it isn't easy to understand.
DESTROYED??? I don't see how opening up new realms of possibility DESTROYS creativity. Creativity is increased when you are limited to just a couple of props and you have to somehow make epic contraptions with them? THAT is a limit to creativity.
I have to disagree. Makes the game open to creating so much more.
Yes.
Wire has been a pain for me. Every time someone comes onto a build server I run, it's always "Where's wire?" Are they incapable of building without wire? I wouldn't call someone a builder if they rely on anything BUT Gmod.
We are not incapable of building without wire, but why go to a furniture store if all they have is chairs? Limiting a player's resources never INCREASES their creativity.

Is this a record for most people flamed in one post or what?
 • Meh, i think wiremod improved gmod. just play servers without wire
 • People just can't seem to comprehend that too much wire causes server lag. Think about it: If you got 40 chips on the map doing 20,000 calculations at once and there are 10+ players on the map, all that activity is going to start severely straining the server.
Yes, how the fuck? Wire doesn't have the rights to remove your props, all it an do is materialize and colour them.
I've seen people manipulate wire to gain 'ownership' of another player's contraption and delete it and I have permabanned such assholes as well. I won't say how to prevent any more potential minges.
 • Do I think it has ruined it? Not at all Is WireMod the most useful, flexible, and complex tool set available at the moment? Yes Do I think that it has made the "Classic Tools" look stupid? Yes What is being "good" at gMod about? The "Classic Tools"
 •
I've seen people manipulate wire to gain 'ownership' of another player's contraption and delete it and I have permabanned such assholes as well. I won't say how to prevent any more potential minges.
Never seen it happen once, and I have been on loads of servers, full of minges who understand wire. I'm amazed that Wire team haven't looked into this.
 • It's basically my favorite mod, the second fav being PHX. The possibilities for it are just so infinite. I have made remote control snakes that fly through space, then teleport me to them, or mouse aimed turrets. How the hell do you expect to do that with vanilla Gmod?
 • You all see that ticker on the bottom that tells whose here looking at the page. There's like 40 something guests. Well fucking leave right now. No one wants guests here. Either join with an account or leave. You use our bandwidth and make the forums slower for everyone. So fucking leave because it's slowing my facepunch down. Get the fuck out now. You're nothing more than a bunch of freeloaders who probably stole gmod in the first place

 • wire takes the fun out of things you used to have to spend ages and time and effort on contraptions to make them good, with wire it means any idiot can make some remote turret in about 5 seconds not to mention the fucking annoyingness when you don't have wire installed because you hate it and have to spend several years downloading a fuckton of models and lua shit that you're never going to use when you join a server finding servers WITHOUT wire is a challenge in itself
 • It doesn't take long to download, if it's taking you that long, then you must have a fucked internet connection.
 • it takes a fucking year to download from servers especially with the model packs and shit
