•
why'd you record with your mic on :v:
no idea, I hadn't touched FRAPS since the Willy's Jeep video so the video was probably synced with my microphone. and oh god I breath loudly.
 •
i think you left use windows input on
yeah, I should check around a bit before recording. oh well, was just some wip work of the truck, I'll (probably) do a proper video for it in a week or so when I'm certain all that needs to be done to it is done. Right now of silly features, it has: -steering, suspension, applytorque engine, -smooth steering chip by Kai so it won't make agressive turns and make your load fall out, -booster function, -simulated engine overheating / engine blow ups if you run the boost for too long, -regular lights, -hazard lights, -moving pedals, handbrake, speedometer and steeringwheel (holo), -ignition, you can't drive before turning the key, -storage room, it can currently only carry about 4.5 tons before suspension breaking up though, -anti roll hydraulics to the wheels. Basically a gyro hooked up to an E2 that reads the angle of the main prop. When it's out of balance, the hydraulics move and even out. Good if you don't want to lose your load, not all too effective though, -third person view, -dashboard that shows what the truck is processing, like if you're using the anti roll, -speedlimiter that you can adjust yourself. Want to do an 80KP/h limit? Sure, enter the amount. Want to do 105 which is the fastest you can go on regular Source limitations with this Scania model? Sure, you can do that. -tons of buttons that you can press that activates the above stuff. [editline]edit[/editline] I just realized that I used 7 hours on doing the stuff above. God dammit, I need to stop myself at some point. I think the main reason I'm adding all this stuff is because it's leight-weight and can all be parented. It's basically a way to get more fun out of your stuff without putting more strain on the server

 • Is there a trick to parenting to an arithmetic chip so that its very stable even though the parented props have a higher weight than it?
 •
Is there a trick to parenting to an arithmetic chip so that its very stable even though the parented props have a higher weight than it?
what. Not sure if I understand that correctly but parented props lose their physics so the weight will fall to the ground. IE, the shell won't have any weight, other than the chip.

Figured "why not make a helicopter/vtol designed to carry a tank?"; then decided "why not make something that can carry just about anything?". Hopefully I'll figure out how the hell to make it work... (I keep forgetting how incompetent I am at designing stuff that's in any way functional)

 •
Simulated engine explosion, made possible by Truckerdude. It basically reads how long time you hold down alt for the boosting of the engine. When you hold it down for 10 seconds, the engine blows up (so it can't move), smokes start coming out of the front and an awesome sound effect for an explosion starts playing. Then you need to wait 15 seconds and it'll stop.
Your turbo mechanic sounds just like the turbo "heat" system in Motorstorm. With such speed, it would be so fitting to put a jet engine on the back of that in place of of the cargo bay. I'm specifically thinking of a big rig in Motorstorm Pacific Rift that has just that, but since there is somehow not a single picture of it on the entire internet I'll have to take some pictures myself, which I can do that in a few hours time. Interested? I'll get some great reference shots for you.
 • I've got the workings for a small Napier Deltic engine going. Just about to tackle the E2 coding for it. It's not exactly the same as a real Napier Deltic because all of the crankshafts spin in the same direction instead of having one counter-rotate, but I think it's close enough. Once I get the feel for building these I'm going to make a larger 18 cylinder (36 piston) one and slap it in a train.

I fucking love classic dodge trucks especially ones with a strikingly realistic appearance and very tasteful prop placement! I bet you can guess what I drive. [sp]I'll give you a hint, it isn't a Prius[/sp] Also, wheeeee! Little compound helicopter. Looks like a reject from C&C Generals. Easy to strafe because angles don't correspond necessarily to velocity, and because even though it only weighs like 2k, I already tried out putting 50mm cannons on the pods, and it flew fine, so that's pretty awesome. Skimped on the cockpit to save props and becuase you usually can't see it anyway. Both sticks are holo and correspond to different inputs. and some stupid shit. Didn't expect that.
 •
So after GGG there is any serious building servers?
There is Mine-Dog were quite a lot of the GGG community went. it's passworded so you should probably ask Waxx if you can get in. it's pretty stable but doesn't like all too many vehicles at once. [editline]I like cocks[/editline] here you go. http://steamcommunity.com/id/waxx

 • does anybody know if makesphere is actually unstable? it seems like whenever my profan puts it on his server it crashes like, after 20-60min, and without it takes one and a half atleast...
 • Don't think it's MakeSpherical but can't be sure. The MakeSpherical script seems pretty simple so if there would be anything wrong, it would probably be it corrupting with another addon on the server.
 • well, they just crashed after 20 minutes without makespherical so I guess it's not that anyway.

Only difference is that you have to spawn the wheel on a prop then delete the prop you spawned it on.
 •
Wheel2 is more stable than makespherical. Only difference is that you have to spawn the wheel on a prop then delete the prop you spawned it on.
And the fact that it takes a lot more time to import a model to wheel2 (wheel_model) and it's an entity which means there's an aura with settings when you look at the wheels. can you elaborate on how wheel2 is more stable? just wondering if I need to go back to that if there's something fishy I don't know about.

 • There's not. MakeSpherical is by far a better solution than Wheel2, as, despite being simpler to use, it's less buggy. The fact that you have to remove constraints from Wheel2 before it's usable should tell you that makeSpherical is the better choice. Wheel2 is a 'glitch', so to speak; a buggy workaround and a cumbersome method to use. MakeSpherical is a simple, effective, dedicated tool. I don't know where these people are getting the notion that such a dodgy utilization of a tool like Wheel2 could possibly be better than MakeSpherical. I've gotten Lua errors, game hangups, and other strange anomalies from removing the constraints from wheel tool entities and playing around with them; that's not the sort of thing we need to be relying on.

 • I use prop wheels and go really slow. Small tracked vehicles driving around in fast-forward makes me smile. Sorry about the recording quality, this was recorded with a potato (actually had limited harddisk space)

There more just place holders at the moment until I find some new ones. We're basically going as realistic as possibly with this car (custom gauges etc) and the doors will be put on after the car is parented as we are going to work on making them move. All lights will work (blinkers yes!! :P) And we'll probably use a Mr Whites v8 in it (<3). The scaling is decent as it was a very big car back in the day :P

 • That's different (in a good way!) Sucks that ACF has no naval weapons. Again I say making it so acf ammo can be detonated on a wire input would be cool. [editline]20th February 2012[/editline] Gmod needs more subs.
