Beta Update 21

I sent an update to the beta to Valve. It seems like not a lot has changed when you look at this changelist, especially since the last patch. To be totally honest I’m not sure what I’ve been doing all this time.

  • Added rope texture option to Hydraulic
  • Added rope texture option to Muscle
  • Added rope texture option to Pulley
  • Added rope texture option to Slider
  • Added Start On option to Muscle
  • Added GM:PlayerSwitchWeapons( pl, LastWeapon, NewWeapon )
  • Added languages
  • Games no longer mount unless they’re installed in Steam
  • Fixed not being able to install more than 50 workshop addons
  • Fixed sound.Add not working
  • Added Vector:Set( vec )
  • Added net.ReadNormal() ( returns vector )
  • Added net.WriteNormal( vec )
  • Fixed loading screen not showing file downloads
  • Console only scrolls to bottom on input if already at bottom
  • Console now pruned to 500 lines
  • Added new Server Browser
  • Added new Start Game screen

There’s a couple of changes here that you should be aware of to avoid crazy bug reports.

Installing Games

GMod used to install other games, right? Well when it did that the game wasn’t actually really installed. If your games look like these orangey yellow entries..

.. and you want them to work in GMod 13 Beta - then you’re gonna want to do this to install them properly.

To clarify, GMod will no longer use games that aren’t installed, and aren’t installed properly. This includes HL2. You can play GMod without HL2 - the only thing you’re missing is the levels. I can imagine a few people with smaller hard drives will like this change.

Languages

As per the last post we have translations in. Not everything is translated yet. Basically everything in the main menu should be, and everything in the top section of the tool menu (contstraints). I’m working my way through the rest.

I am aware that some of the titles and descriptions of the tools are broken right now. Don’t worry too much about that.

Addons

You should be able to enable, disable, uninstall and install addons from the Addons option in the main menu. The categories aren’t working quite properly just yet (Steamworks doesn’t search by tags properly yet so I’m faking it).

This is something I wanted to get in as a foundation and build on later.

Mac/Linux

Sorry - I’m reconfiguring our build servers and haven’t managed to build an up to date version of the mac/linux binaries - so I don’t imagine that either will work.

Forums

As usual, discussions, bug reports and requests go in the forums.
